I was impressed to see my nose straight

The patient

Before contacting with the Rhinologycal Clinic, I had not been looking for information about Dr. Colomé, I looked for nose doctors in the medical insurance book. I had a feeling and requested an appointment with Maria Colomé.

I went with my parents to the first visit and Dr. Pérez attended us and made the first assessment. I went because I was snoring a lot, I was not breathing; for me the left nostril did not exist, the air did not pass, only passed through the right nostril.

That same day I did all the respiratory tests. I had a rhinomanometry. I had a really bad time while doing it, not because it hurt, but because I couldn’t breathe through the left nostril, I was drowning.

They also asked me for allergy tests, where I discovered that I had an allergy to grasses, to dog and cat hair and to mites, especially mites that are concentrated in warehouses.

After the evaluation, Dr. Colomé told me that I need to have a surgery because if I did not solve the nasal obstruction, I could have significant health problems. I had been on the waiting list of the Social Security for 3 years to have surgery.

I asked people who had already had surgery with other otorhinolaryngologists, most of them through the public health care, not with the radiofrequency technique, and they all told me that it hurt a lot, that it would bleed and that I would not really notice the difference. That I would have to go through the operating room several times. That scared me, I was very scared.

But Dr. Colomé explained to me very well how everything was going to go and I decided to have surgery to improve my breathing. I think it’s the best thing I could have done. The doctor told me that there was an option to do the cosmetic surgery at the same time. At first I thought about doing the functional operation first and then the aesthetic one, but then evaluating it with my parents and Dr. Colomé, I thought it was better to do both at the same time.

I did not look for anything on the Internet about how the operation was going to be, they had already put a lot of fear in my body. So I looked for information about Dr. Colomé and about the postoperative stage. And that’s when I saw that many people from all over Spain had come to have surgery with her. That she is considered the best rhinologist in Spain.

The operation took a couple of hours more or less. With general anesthesia. The only thing I remember when I woke up was that I had nasal packing, and had bruises under the eyes. I had some pain, not excessive, no headache.

The worst moment was the nasal unpacking. It is a very strange feeling, which I have never had, it is quite unpleasant. I did acupuncture and the truth, it went very well, the swelling on my face went very quickly. The bruises lasted for 2-3 weeks.

I was impressed to see my nose straight. It was a surprise. And it was also impressive to note that I could breathe through both nostrils. You could compare it to when a baby is born and breathes for the first time. It was incredible.

I did acupuncture for about 3 months. I felt very good. It was like it freed me. The first months you have to be careful because everything is still tender. The nose keeps changing and you don’t see the final result until 2 years have passed.

You cannot look for aesthetic perfection. It’s very complicated. I am very happy with the result. For me aesthetics was secondary, I prioritized being able to breathe.

My life has improved a lot. I snored a lot, and now I don’t snore. My partner couldn’t sleep. Before, I was always tired at work. When I touched the dog it made me sick. Not now. It was like having a plug in your nose and not being able to breathe.

I no longer remember how bad I was. It was the best thing I could do.

Don’t listen to what people say about whether it hurts or not. If I had to have surgery, I would do it again, especially with radio frequency.

The medical team

It was a patient with a nose displaced to the right and with a hump. Her nasal septum was highly angulated, completely obstructing her left nostril, and her turbinates had grown very large. The result was a large nasal obstruction, therefore the solution was primarily surgical.

We performed a septoplasty and turbinate surgery using radiofrequency, which is a very non-aggressive technique that rapidly improves the postoperative period since it reduces bleeding, pain and edema. At the same time we perform an aesthetic rhinoplasty centering the nose in the midline and smoothing the profile.

The patient feels very well and very happy.
